Corruption: SNG asks Buhari to sack CCT’s chair

A
group, Save Nigeria Group (SNG), yesterday called on President
Muhammadu Buhari to suspend the Chairman of the Code of Conduct
Tribunal, Danladi Umar, over allegations of abuse of office and
corruption.Besides, it asked Mr. President to order the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to prosecute him over the alleged offences. SNG’s call came after another group, the Registered Trustees of Mission for Peace and Development Initiative had earlier dragged Umar before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja asking it to sack him over alleged money laundering, bribery and other vices.
Similarly, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Mike Ozekhome had on behalf of a plaintiff at the Federal High Court applied to the EFCC under the Freedom of Information Act, for certified true copies of all relevant pages of the entire report of the investigation carried out by the anti-graft agency in relation to a petition dated June 20, 2013 by a retired Comptroller of Customs, Rasheed Taiwo against Danladi.
Ozekhome, in a letter addressed to the Chairman of EFCC said “the information sought to be granted access to in relation to the subject matter, includes all records, correspondences, documents, investigation, recommendation, conclusion and all other information stored in whatever form, including written, electronic, visual, image, sound, audio recording and the like, obtained by the investigating officers in the course of carrying out investigation, onthe petition dated 20thJune, 2013, by one Mr. Rasheed A. Taiwo, a retired Comptroller of Customs, against Mr. Danladi Umar, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Abuja”.
